Basic Info
Name:Captain Jack Sparrow
Bio
Captain Jack Sparrow
Basics
Series: Pirates of the Caribbean
Version: Halfway through the first movie (on Isla Muerta)
Age: early 30s
Gender: Male
Sexuality: He likes pretty girls. And quite possibly pretty boys.
Appearance
Jack is the picture of a Caribbean pirate, from the top of his leather tricorn hat to the soles of his folded-down boots. A mish-mash of linen clothes complemented by belts and his 'effects' lies beneath his large duster, enough to keep out the weather, but at the same time, cool enough for the hot days on land or sea. His shirt is overlarge, kept in check by a vest, and his pants are big, enough to fit two of him in, kept up by a long sash and a belt, with a sword and pistol tucked in it. Not only that, but a compass, which he keeps close to his person.

In addition to the mess of his clothing, the trinkets he's collected from his travels have been strung along his person, and most easily seen from his bandanna-covered, dreadlocked hair. Two strings of beads, a bone, coins, jewelry... there are even beads at the ends of two braids of his goatee. He wears rings on his fingers, and cloth bindings on his wrists, quite possibly to hide the branded 'P' on his wrist, and the tattoo of a sparrow and sun above it. His sly, slightly drunken smile reveals several gold teeth, darkened slightly from the khol lining his eyes. Overall, he looks quite the... bad pirate.
Personality
Jack Sparrow is a man after any woman's heart. Mostly because he wants whatever coin or information she possesses, or whatever happens to be under the skirts of her dress. He gets what he wants most often by negotiation and trickery rather than brute force because of his poor fighting skills. The rules of combat, however, don't really apply. After all, he is a pirate.

Jack is out to make a name for himself more often than not, and if it means pulling in a bit of plunder along the way, so much the better. That isn't the only reason he's a pirate, though. A ship, any ship, and its ability to let him roam, to grant him freedom, is what he truly cherishes. That, and perhaps a store of rum. In regards to the rumors spread about him, of how he escaped a desert island, sacked a port without firing a shot, or escaped from under the eyes of the East India Trading Company, he does very little to sway them. In fact, he spins even more of a web with them, extrapolating when questions are asked.

Most of his personality comes upon first impression; he sways as though perpetually drunk, drawling through his speech and punctuating it with wild gestures and movements. He is, however, quite the cunning man, underneath that. He possesses a surprisingly large vocabulary, and most of the trickery he presents comes not from physicality but rather his insatiable tongue and quick wit.

One would think a pirate the scourge of the sea, and truth be told, Jack wishes to be. He doesn't quite fit the bill, his actions kept in check by his morals and the code of the pirate brethren. He risks a lot for his crew and himself, coming to the rescue when needed. What good would a captain be without a crew to back him up? And what crew would back up someone that wouldn't do the same for them?
Abilities/Weaponry/Strengths
Like any human, Jack is quite devoid of any special powers. And for being a pirate, he's quite the poor swordsman, but he makes up for it with wit and words. He does, though, carry weapons, for the highly likely case that he'll need them. His sword is the most prevalent, a basic one, though sightly longer than most to keep his area of reach high. He keeps a pistol as well, though only uses it to threaten, except for his shooting Barbossa with the single bullet he was granted upon his exile to a desert island.

The most unique piece of his effects is his compass, which doesn't point north, and most people assume to be broken. It is not found out until later, but it guides him to whatever his heart most wishes for. Presumably, it's how he found Isla des la Muerta without ever having been there.
Weaknesses
Jack's biggest weaknesses are for that of women, treasure and name, and his poor swordsplay. He would do anything to become a great pirate, free to sail as he wished and live as he pleased, with women, gold and title to his name. If it meant keeping a blurred line of ally, then so be it. And compared to most others, especially Will Turner and Barbossa, his swordsmanship is lacking in spades.
History
(There IS backstory of him as a teenager, but it's mostly for children; I'm sticking with just movie canon, so there's no information about his years as a kid. This starts at the point he was in the East India Trading Company.)

Long before his advetures on the Black Pearl, Jack was in the employ of the East India Trading Company, captaining a ship whose purpose was to ferry slaves, under the eye of Cutler Beckett. It was a sign of Jack's morals when he wouldn't do it, instead setting the slaves free. Because of that, his ship was sunk and he was branded a pirate, with a 'P' on his right forearm.

Jack, though, wanted his ship back, and found his way to an audience with Davy Jones, agreeing to servitude on his ship in exchange for the ressurection of his own. It was granted, and he fled to live his life as the pirate he was branded as.

Between then and when he wound up in Tortuga looking for a crew to man his ship, little is known about him. His adventures would become rumors, from the time he sacked Port Nassau without firing a single shot to the times he impersonated members of the Navy and Clergy, as well as the time he was made chief of a native tribe. Also during that time, he became one of the nine pirate lords of the brethren, his domain that of the Caribbean.

From then on, he would captain his ship, The Black Pearl, until one night, when his first mate, Barbossa, came to him and asked the location of the treasure they were searching for, the Aztec gold presented to Cortez as blood money. Naiive as he was, Jack handed it over, and a mutiny the next night saw him trapped on a deserted island, left with only his effects and one pistol, with a single shot.

Three days, he lay on that beach, until Rumrunners of the Caribbean came, and he bartered his way back to the mainland. Years later, he commandeered a small boat from a woman named Anamaria, which sunk in the docks of Port Royal. On his quest to find a new ship and sneaking his way aboard the British Navy's Interceptor, he wound up having to rescue one Elizabeth Swann, daughter to the governer and intended for Commodore James Norrington.

Enraged at Jack though he saved Elizabeth's life, the governer and commodore wanted him imprisoned, but Jack escaped, taking refuge in a blacksmith shop. From there, he was discovered by Will Turner, who kept him busy until he was knocked over the head and summarily into unconsciousness, and upon waking, would be in the hands of the British Navy.

He was to be rescued by the same man who wanted him dead, in exchange for rescuing Elizabeth. Jack agreed, and Will released him, both of them making their way to the Dauntless, and then to the Interceptor, which they commandeered to chase down the Black Pearl, after heading to Tortuga once more, to gain a crew. Aided by Jack's long time friend Gibbs, said crew was quickly established, and they sailed for Isla des la Muerta.

Once there, both he and Will snuck into the caves, watching Barbossa with what he thought would be the blood tribute to break the curse, through Elizabeth's lie that she was a 'Turner.' Jack proceeded to try and convince Will to stay behind and not do anything stupid while he went to negotiate, but it was in vain, for he went down with a hefty oar-smack to the face.

Left behind, and hidden in the caves, he would not be found, and would wake up in a profoundly different place...
